In the many exercises that are provided in each chapter, readers are invited to apply grammatical concepts to the analysis of a literary passage, the speech or writing of a child, the language of an English learner, or the reader's own prose. This is an ideal text for undergraduate students of English literature or composition or for pre-service teachers of English as a first or second language.
